Sisterly Popcorn

Imagine yourself sitting down to a night of watching Game of Thrones, feeling your stomach rumble, and begin to wonder, “gee, what’s there to snack on?”

Rather than grabbing 7-month old Halloween candy, opt for air-popped popcorn: 3 cups of popped corn is less than 100 calories.

Well, that’s just too awesome.

Makes 2 servings

Every time Ally eats home made popcorn she thinks of her sisters. It was a permanent fixture when she was younger for movies, a babysitter, or because it was one of a handful of things they knew how to successfully cook. Now being upgraded from the traditional plug-in popcorn maker and trusted with using the stove top, the movie night popcorn tradition continues.

Play around with the oil used, like truffle, walnut, and sesame, as each lends a unique flavour to this classic movie accompaniment.

*Note: 3 tablespoons corn kernels = 3 cups popcorn

Ingredients :

  • 1/4 cup corn kernels
  • A dollop of oil

How to:

  1. Combine kernels and oil in a pot with a tightly-fitted lid. Cover and place over medium heat. Allow to cook. Every so often I like to shake the pot while grasping the handle to ensure kernels don’t escape!
  2. Keep covered and cooking until the popping stops. Remove from heat and with the lid still on allow to sit for 2 minutes (just in case a few kernels pop soon after).
  3. Keep it plain or add some salt-free additives, like garam masala, extra oil, chili powder, etc.
