Microwaving a Yam

Pierce the washed yam with a fork, ~1 cm deep. Do this all over the yam, about 10-15 times.

Microwave on a plate for 4 minutes.

Depending on the size of your yam, it may be done! Being aware of the steam, pinch the middle of the yam. If it’s squishy, it’s done. If not, nuke for another 1-3 minutes (at this point we prefer 1 minute intervals; an overcooked yam becomes dehydrated and chewy).
