Black Bean Salsa

Salsa and chips are tasty, but essentially its an unbalanced snack as it’s only carbohydrates.

So how can you still enjoy this combination, add some protein, and increase the fibre (and flavour)?

By adding black beans, avocado, and tomatoes into the mix.

Makes 8 servings


  • 1 can (540 mL) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 large avocado, chopped
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • 8-10 cherry tomatoes, quartered*
  • 1/4 red onion, diced
  • Juice of half of a lime
  • Sprinkling of salt

*Note that the original recipe did not add tomatoes. We associate salsa with tomatoes. Hence, the added tomatoes.

How to:

  1. Add all ingredients into a bowl and mix together.
